Our Founder
Jan I. Bernstein has been working with museums, universities, and governmental agencies on repatriation and NAGPRA compliance since the mid 1980s.
She worked in museums for 17 years in Northern California, New York City, and Colorado before founding B&A in 2004. She has degrees in fine art, art history, and science. She was instrumental in NAGPRA compliance plan design and implementation for the State of California Museum Services Division, The University of Denver, and The Brooklyn Children's Museum. Prior to founding Bernstein & Associates, she served as a consultant to the Colorado Historical Society (Vatican Treasures volunteer recruitment, training, and supervision), the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (collections management including NAGPRA collection storage), Gunnison State Junior College (assessment and planning), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (conservation and exhibits).
